Two separate tragic incidents in the rural pockets of Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district have claimed five lives, leaving two families devastated. The first incident took place near Ghanahatti on the highway, where a private car collided head-on with a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus. Three members of a single household travelling in the car died on the spot, while a young man sustained serious injuries.
Tragic Collision Near Ghandal-Solah Meel During Return Journey
The victims, hailing from the village of Phanji, had travelled to Shimla on Thursday morning to visit the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) hospital for medical treatment and medicines. After completing their hospital visit and collecting prescribed medicines, all four family members, comprising two men and two women, boarded their car to return home towards Ghanagughat.
As the vehicle reached the stretch between Ghandal and Solah Meel, it collided violently with an oncoming HRTC bus. The impact crushed the front section of the car, resulting in the instantaneous death of the young driver's father, mother, and grandmother. The critically injured youth was rescued and rushed immediately to IGMC hospital in Shimla for emergency medical attention. The loss of three direct elders in a single moment has plunged the family and the entire locality into deep mourning.
Speeding and Overtaking Suspected in Highway Crash
Initial findings suggest that the crash occurred due to excessive speed and an attempt to pass another vehicle along the mountain road. However, official confirmation regarding which driver was at fault will only be established once the police conclude their detailed investigation and examination of the accident site. Authorities have initiated formal legal procedures following the collision.
Two Sisters Found Unconscious in Chopal, Die During Treatment
In another tragic occurrence reported from Tailor village in the Chopal sub-division of Shimla district, two young sisters aged 11 and 8 died after falling unconscious at their residence. The daughters of Jitender Chauhan were found unresponsive in their room on September 20, prompting family members to quickly take them to Tiuni hospital for emergency care.
Given their deteriorating state, doctors at Tiuni referred the girls to the hospital in Rohru, from where they were subsequently shifted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for advanced critical support. Despite extensive medical intervention, both sisters succumbed during the course of treatment. Hospital authorities handed over the bodies to the grieving family after completing post-mortem examinations.
Suspected Snakebite Under Investigation
Naib Tehsildar of Nerwa, Kush Kumar, stated that circumstantial observations point towards snakebite as the probable cause behind the sudden collapse and subsequent death of the two girls. Administrative officials emphasized that the definitive cause will only be confirmed once the final post-mortem and forensic analysis reports are made available. The sudden demise of two young children has left the village in grief.
