A remarkable story of compassion and modern social values has emerged from the Dayalpuram locality in Khatauli, Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Setting aside conventional taboos following a profound personal tragedy, a family stepped forward to secure the future of their young widowed daughter-in-law. Just one month after the untimely death of her husband, a grief-stricken mother-in-law married off her daughter-in-law like her own daughter, while the brother-in-law performed the traditional rituals of Kanyadaan as a brother.
Tragedy Strikes a Happy Family
Meenakshi, originally from Bahadurpur in Haridwar, married Rohit, a resident of Dayalpuram, a decade ago in 2017. The couple enjoyed a peaceful life together and had two daughters: seven-year-old Ritu and one-and-a-half-year-old Avika. However, tragedy struck the household in quick succession. On August 14, Rohit's father Ompal, who worked as a mason, lost his battle with cancer. Overwhelmed by severe shock and grief over his father's demise, Rohit passed away the very next day on August 15.
Remarriage Conducted at Arya Samaj Temple
Faced with the sudden loss of both her husband and father-in-law, Meenakshi was left facing an uncertain future at a young age. Recognizing the reality of her long life ahead and the needs of her minor children, her mother-in-law Sunita resolved to arrange her remarriage. With Meenakshi's full consent, Sunita arranged her wedding with Yogesh, who runs a chaat shop in Narayanpur, Rajasthan. The marriage was solemnized with complete traditional rites at an Arya Samaj temple on Wednesday, where Meenakshi's brother-in-law Mohit stepped into the role of a protective brother to perform the Kanyadaan.
Family Accord and Future Outlook
The entire family expressed contentment with the decision. Meenakshi stated that she entered into the marriage willingly and without any external pressure, adding that her in-laws acted in her best interest. Mohit explained that with both his father and brother gone, the family felt duty-bound to think about his sister-in-law's future and the upbringing of the two young girls. Mother-in-law Sunita reiterated that she was bidding farewell to Meenakshi not as a daughter-in-law, but as her own daughter, promising to maintain their familial bond for a lifetime.
