A fresh wave of tension gripped the Himachal Pradesh University campus in Shimla following a confrontation between student groups. The trouble erupted inside the university law department, where student leaders affiliated with the SFI clashed with other students. As tempers flared across the department premises, university security DSP Gauri Dutt Shankar rushed to the spot along with security personnel to bring the escalating dispute under control.
Bag Inspection at the Vice Chancellor Office Uncovers Sharp Weapons
Following the scuffle in the law department, several students moved towards the Vice Chancellor office. Security personnel stationed there conducted a thorough search of their belongings, during which sharp weapons were discovered inside the bags belonging to some student leaders. When questioned by the police on the spot, the youths attempted to deflect responsibility by claiming that the bag belonged to someone else. However, they failed to offer any credible or convincing explanation regarding the presence of the weapons.
DSP Strong Reprimand Caught on Camera
The discovery of weapons on an educational campus drew severe condemnation from DSP Gauri Dutt Shankar. A video of the confrontation surfaced, showing the officer questioning the students directly about their conduct. Visibly angered, the DSP reprimanded them sharply, asking if they were butchers who had come to campus to commit murder rather than study. The visual recording captured the officer pressing the students for answers while rebuking them for bringing violence into an academic setting.
Seven Apprehended by Quick Reaction Team for Obstructing Duty
As police personnel moved to manage the law and order situation, several youths attempted to interfere with police operations. The Quick Reaction Team immediately intervened and detained seven individuals, subsequently transferring them to the Boileauganj police station. The apprehended individuals were identified by Shimla police as

- Pravesh, son of Fakeer Chand, resident of Shillai in Sirmaur district.
- Mukesh, son of Sukhdev, resident of Churah in Chamba district.
- Ashish, son of Joginder, resident of Nankhari in Shimla district.
- Kishore Kumar, son of Jeet Ram, resident of Kullu Sadar in Kullu district.
- Happy, son of Veer Singh, resident of Thunag in Mandi district.
- Chaman, son of Sukhdev, resident of Churah in Chamba district.
Medical Examinations and Probe Into Campus Violence
All seven accused individuals underwent mandatory medical examinations and were placed in police custody at the station lockup ahead of their presentation before the competent authority. Shimla police have launched a comprehensive investigation into both the initial altercation and the recovery of sharp weapons from the students. Concerns over campus safety have intensified, especially since the university had witnessed another bloody clash just two days prior to this incident.
