A sudden cloudburst in the Jispa area of Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh has triggered serious disruption, unleashing a heavy surge of water and debris onto the roads. Both the Manali-Leh and Manali-Zanskar routes have been completely cut off, and district authorities moved swiftly to suspend traffic on both highways as a safety measure.
All Vehicles Stopped at Kalong
Police said the sheer volume of water and debris on the road made it impossible to allow any vehicle movement. As a precaution, all vehicles have been halted at Kalong. Coordination has also been established with Leh Police to ensure that no traveler advances toward the affected zone from that end.
BRO Teams on Ground, Clearance Work Under Way
Teams from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have reached the site and are working at pace to clear the debris and restore the route as quickly as possible. Police are continuously patrolling the affected area and keeping a close watch on the ground situation. The administration has urged all tourists, local residents, and other travelers to avoid the Manali-Leh and Manali-Zanskar routes until an official all-clear is issued.
Landslide and Flash Flood Risk Persists
With weather conditions continuing to be poor across the region, the threat of sudden landslides, flash floods, and road blockages remains present in the mountainous stretches. Anyone facing an emergency is advised to contact the police helpline at 112.
