A shocking shooting incident rattled Himachal Pradesh early in the morning, leaving a former soldier injured. The episode took place in Balkarupi village located within the Lambagao area of Kangra district. The victim, a 58-year-old former soldier, was out walking with his dog right outside his residence when the sudden attack occurred. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was promptly shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Local law enforcement authorities have initiated a vigorous search operation to track down the fleeing suspect.
Details of the Morning Incident
According to available information, the shooting unfolded on October 20 at around 7:30 in the morning. The injured former soldier has been identified as Mahendra Singh. Initial inquiries indicate that the alleged assailant is named Shatrughan and hails from Madhya Pradesh. However, the precise motive behind opening fire remains unclear at this stage. Investigators stated that the exact reason for the attack will only come to light once the accused is successfully apprehended and interrogated.
Previous Association and Employment History
Reports reveal that Mahendra Singh previously worked at a factory located in Baddi within Solan district. The suspect Shatrughan was also employed at the same factory, which is how the two men knew each other prior to this incident. Around six months ago in March, Mahendra Singh quit his job and returned permanently to his native home. Interestingly, Shatrughan had even accompanied him to drop him off at his residence during that time. Given this prior acquaintance, locals and acquaintances find it difficult to digest why such an extreme attack took place.
Police Investigation and Law Enforcement Response
Immediately after the shooting, a team from the Alampur police station rushed to the scene and thoroughly inspected the area. Authorities reported that after discharging the weapon, the suspect fled towards a nearby forest area. Police maintain that a clearer picture will emerge once the investigation progresses and the accused is caught. Notably, this incident follows another violent crime on Tuesday morning where a young man of Nepali origin was murdered in Jubbal, Shimla, raising fresh concerns over law and order across the state.
