The investigation into the broad daylight murder of Janki Das, cashier at Shri Kumar Chemist Shop in Sector-11, Chandigarh, has reached a decisive stage. The alleged mastermind behind this high profile killing, Amit Kumar alias Sharabi, has been brought back from Jammu by Chandigarh Police on a production warrant. A police team escorted him from Samba to Chandigarh late in the evening. The development is being seen as a major breakthrough, since Amit Kumar had until now remained in the custody of Jammu Police, keeping Chandigarh investigators from questioning him directly.

The Missing Weapon Remains The Biggest Hurdle
The most critical part of the probe is recovering the foreign made Zigana pistol used in the murder, from which 13 rounds were fired in just 1 second. Police are hopeful that questioning Amit will yield crucial clues about where the weapon is hidden and who helped make it disappear. Amit had earlier claimed during interrogation that he put the pistol in an envelope and threw it away in the Sector-43 area after the crime, but police have not been able to recover the weapon so far. Earlier, Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma were arrested by Chandigarh Police from Jammu and Kashmir, while the alleged mastermind Amit Kumar alias Sharabi was arrested by Jammu Police. Since his arrest, Amit had remained continuously in Jammu Police custody and was questioned in separate seven day remand phases. Who Was Janki Das
Janki Das was a resident of Dalgaon in the Rohru area of Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh. His wife, Ina Machhret, had recently won the Pradhan election in their village. She works on an outsourced basis at PGI, and the couple had been living in Chandigarh for the past 20 years. Janki Das himself had long been working at a medical store. Two shooters in this case have already been arrested.

Notably, Janki Das was shot 13 times in just 1 second, and the weapon used was a Zigana pistol. The same type of Zigana pistol has previously been used to kill Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and UP gangster Atiq Ahmed. The pistol is manufactured in Turkiye and is completely banned in India, entering the country only through smuggling. Its price starts at four lakh rupees. This is exactly why recovering this particular weapon has become one of the most sensitive and important parts of the entire investigation.
