India reaffirmed that the area referred to is exclusively Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a territory under illegal foreign occupation.

In a firm response to the news outlet, the Indian diplomatic mission reiterated India's historic and constitutional position regarding the region. Officials emphasized that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The embassy highlighted that Pakistan continues to maintain an unauthorized military hold over these territories while resorting to forceful measures against the local populace residing there. The diplomatic stance underscores that inaccurate reporting in foreign media cannot diminish sovereign territorial integrity.

This diplomatic friction coincides with escalating civilian unrest across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Over the past two days, deadly crackdowns by security personnel against demonstrators have claimed more than 30 civilian lives, while leaving over 33 individuals injured.
