A severe incident of alleged police brutality has sparked widespread outrage in the Akramabad area of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. A group of police personnel reportedly assaulted an auto-rickshaw driver so severely that the young man collapsed and lost consciousness on the spot. The brutal beatdown triggered immediate panic and anger among local residents and eyewitnesses who witnessed the altercation.
Enraged Mother Blocks Police Vehicle to Demand Justice
Upon receiving news of the violent assault, the victim's mother rushed directly to the location in Akramabad. Seeing her son lying helpless and unconscious on the ground, she confronted the officers involved in the assault. As one of the policemen attempted to leave the scene in his vehicle, the distraught mother courageously stood directly in front of the car to block his exit.
Her resolute protest immediately attracted a large gathering of onlookers and local residents, who assembled around the police vehicle in solidarity. The situation quickly turned into a tense demonstration, with the surging crowd raising strong objections against law enforcement misconduct and demanding immediate suspension and action against the accused officers.
Senior Police Officials Promise Strict Action After Inquiry
As the confrontation escalated and public dissatisfaction grew, high-ranking police officers intervened to manage the situation. Senior police officials assured the aggrieved family and the gathered public that a thorough and impartial inquiry into the entire matter would be initiated promptly. They reaffirmed that if the accused police personnel are proven guilty of using excessive force, stringent legal and departmental actions will be enforced against them.
Growing Concerns Over Police Excesses Across Regions
The Akramabad incident highlights a recurring concern regarding high-handedness and force by police personnel across different states. Recent reports from other areas, such as the severe beating of a student during a fest in Dehradun, a custodial death in Hansi, and reported assault cases in Gorakhpur and Ambedkar Nagar, have raised critical questions about police accountability. The incident in Doda reinforces the need for strict observance of protocol and justice during police operations.
