During the security tour, authorities conducted a detailed examination of the trekking route leading up to the main Bhawan, the base camps, vehicular parking spaces, and strategic CCTV surveillance nodes. Critical access gates, pedestrian flow routes, and established security checkpoints were thoroughly reviewed. Special attention was dedicated to evaluating crowd management mechanisms to prevent bottlenecks and ensure an orderly transit experience for visiting devotees.
Additional Checkposts and Heightened Police Deployment
As part of the elaborate preparedness plan for the festival season, new security posts have been erected across several sensitive sectors of Katra town. The overall deployment of police personnel has been substantially scaled up to monitor public movements around the clock. This year, Navratri festivities will commence on October 11. Senior police officials highlighted that the nine-day festive window traditionally draws a massive influx of pilgrims from across the entire country to pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.

Navratri in Katra is marked by multiple religious and cultural gatherings both within the town and at the higher shrine complex. Key events on the festive calendar include grand religious processions known as Shobha Yatras, early morning devotional walks termed Prabhat Pheris, and national Kavi Sammelans. Strict Traffic Regulations and Parking Management
Regulating vehicular traffic and establishing dedicated parking facilities formed a central element of the administrative review. To enhance pilgrim convenience and minimize delays, administrative teams inspected queue management setups at designated pilgrim registration and transit counters. Authorities noted that heavy footfall often leads to congestion at these service windows, creating inconveniences for visiting devotees. The police department discussed and finalized concrete interventions to streamline lines, maintain orderly queues, and deploy supportive staff to guide the waiting crowds.
Expanding Parking Capacity at New Bus Stand
The district administration is currently executing expansion work to augment vehicular parking capacity at the New Bus Stand in Katra. The New Bus Stand serves as a critical transit junction due to its convenient connectivity and proximity to the core areas of the town. Expanding this facility will accommodate a substantially larger volume of tourist vehicles, thereby easing the pressure on narrow residential and commercial roads.
Call for Public Cooperation and Ban on Roadside Parking
SSP Mukund Tibrewal called upon local residents, business owners, and commercial operators to actively assist law enforcement agencies. He advised residents and private parking operators to verify the operational readiness of their CCTV surveillance systems and maintain comprehensive camera monitoring on their premises. Drivers and local vehicle owners were urged to completely avoid parking vehicles on roadsides during Navratri, as haphazard curbside parking remains the primary cause of traffic bottlenecks throughout Katra. Police underscored that their overarching objective is to provide a seamless, disruption-free pilgrimage for all devotees. Notably, Katra previously witnessed a fire incident at the dedicated helipad terminal serving Vaishno Devi pilgrims, which caused structural damage to a section of the facility, making vigilance around safety protocols a top priority.
