Security forces and law enforcement in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir have launched a major financial crackdown against the syndicates operating behind drug trafficking and militant networks. Authorities in Srinagar have attached multiple immovable properties collectively valued at over seven crore rupees. This sweeping legal action has been executed under strict provisions of the NDPS and UAPA acts to dismantle the economic roots and financial lifelines sustaining these illegal networks across the region.
Targeting High-Value Properties in Zakura and Nowgam
The extensive operation involved targeted interventions by various police stations following detailed financial investigations. Officials confirmed that four major immovable assets worth approximately 7.11 crore rupees have been formally attached. Within the jurisdiction of the Zakura police station, a residential house along with contiguous land situated in Bilal Colony was frozen under the NDPS Act. Valued at roughly 2.5 crore rupees, this property belongs to Owais Ahmed Rather. Investigators established that the asset was allegedly acquired using funds generated through illicit narcotics smuggling, triggering attachment under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act. This order strictly prohibits any sale, lease, transfer, or creation of third-party rights without explicit clearance from the competent authority.
In a parallel operation, the Nowgam police station targeted assets belonging to Shiraz Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Wagura. Authorities attached property valued at approximately 2.85 crore rupees, which encompasses a two-storey concrete building constructed over 18 marlas of land, two commercial shops, and a functional rice mill. This significant seizure was executed under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act following formal approval from the competent authority.
Action Under Anti-Terror Laws
The crackdown extended beyond narcotics into cases tied directly to militant financing and unlawful activities. The Ahmed Nagar police station attached a residential property belonging to Zahoor Ahmed Mir located in Danihama, Hazratbal. Valued at roughly 1.30 crore rupees, the asset includes a single-storey residential house built on 6 marlas of land, attached under Section 25 of the UA(P) Act in connection with an FIR registered under the Arms Act and UAPA provisions. Additionally, Shalteng police took over a single-storey residential house and 7 marlas of land in Check Mujgund, Srinagar, belonging to Ameer Ahmed Mir. Valued at approximately 46 lakh rupees, this property was similarly identified as a direct acquisition funded through illegal drug proceeds.
