A shocking and tragic incident has emerged from Jammu, where a festive birthday gathering turned into a crime scene. A minor disagreement over applying cake on a friend's face during a birthday party escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in the fatal stabbing of a young man. The local authorities launched an immediate investigation into the murder following an alert from the hospital where the victim was brought deceased.
Heated Argument During Roadside Birthday Celebration
According to the preliminary investigation by the police, the incident took place on Thursday near Lower Roop Nagar, where a youth named Neeraj, also known as Anshu, was celebrating his birthday on the roadside. The gathering included Neeraj's brother Rishu, along with several of his close friends, namely John Sotra, Gaurav Singh, Sugandh Bhatti, and Pawan Nayar, who was also known as Samir. As they cut the birthday cake, Nayar playfully smeared some cake on Neeraj's face. This lighthearted gesture was not well received by Neeraj, triggering a sharp verbal argument between the two.
Fatal Physical Attack Despite Friends Trying to Intervene
Although the other friends present at the spot tried their best to defuse the situation and calm both of them down, Neeraj lost his composure in a fit of rage. He pulled out a knife he was carrying and stabbed Nayar directly in the neck, causing severe physical trauma and heavy bleeding. Sensing the critical nature of the injury, Nayar's friends—Sotra, Gaurav Singh, and Bhatti—immediately rushed him to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu. However, upon arrival, the attending doctors examined him and declared him dead.
Police Register FIR and Detain Two Suspects
The GMC police post swiftly conveyed the details of the incident to the Janipur Police Station. A police team arrived at the hospital shortly after to take stock of the situation and begin their inquiry. Following the protocol, the authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Janipur Police Station. Law enforcement personnel acted quickly to track down and arrest the main accused, Neeraj, alongside his brother Rishu. Both individuals are currently in police custody at the Janipur Police Station.
Weapon Recovery and Law and Order Context
The police are actively executing operations to recover the weapon used in the crime. In the meantime, the body of the deceased has been moved for a post-mortem examination. Jammu Police issued an official statement assuring the public that strict and swift legal actions will be taken against the accused individuals in accordance with the law. This violent incident comes within twenty-four hours of another homicide in Jammu, where a 35-year-old newspaper hawker named Deepak Sharma was shot dead at his residence in Resham Ghar Colony.
