A highly unusual and deeply spiritual atmosphere has taken over Koderma, Jharkhand, where the only cinema hall in the district is currently operating less like a standard theater and more like a holy shrine. The cause of this remarkable transformation is the newly released movie 'Hanuman Ansh', which is based on the early life and spiritual journey of the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba. Ever since its debut, the film has captured the hearts and minds of local audiences, drawing massive crowds on a daily basis. On Tuesday, viewers exiting the theater expressed overwhelming admiration, describing the cinematic experience as heart-touching and highly suitable for both families and the younger generation.
A Cinematic Temple: Daily Prayers, Aarti, and Prasadam
Inside the Ilex cinema hall, the standard movie-watching environment has been completely reinvented to align with the spiritual theme of the film. In a rare gesture of devotion, large portraits of Lord Hanuman and Saint Neem Karoli Baba have been respectfully installed right in front of the movie screen. Daily rituals, including prayers and aarti, are conducted in front of these portraits. Deepak Kumar, the manager of Ilex Koderma, revealed that every single screening begins with the collective chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa followed by a ceremonial aarti. To make the experience even more memorable, the theater administration distributes laddoos as holy prasad to all audience members at the conclusion of each show, fostering a deep communal and spiritual bond among the visitors.
Sprinting to Full Houses with Zero Poster Publicity
Interestingly, the immense popularity of 'Hanuman Ansh' has been achieved without the help of traditional marketing methods. While theaters usually put up massive banners, billboards, and posters on their exterior walls to promote new releases, the Ilex theater in Koderma has not displayed a single poster for this movie. Despite this lack of physical advertisement, the influx of moviegoers has been rising steadily day by day. Local social worker Vishal Bhadani commented on this unique phenomenon, noting that the sheer impact of the film's narrative has turned viewers into active promoters. Word-of-mouth publicity is driving the film's success, with individuals discussing the movie within their social circles, leading to an ever-increasing audience size with each passing day.
Five Shows Daily and the Return of Long-Absent Moviegoers
Due to the unprecedented demand, the theater is currently running five daily shows of 'Hanuman Ansh', and multiple screenings are registering full houses. Vijay Kumar, a local resident who visited the cinema with his wife and children, shared that he had previously watched brief clips of the film on his mobile phone. Those snippets were so compelling that he felt inspired to book tickets for his entire family to experience the complete story on the big screen. He mentioned that the film conveys a profound message about aligning oneself with Lord Hanuman, adding that his own spiritual devotion has been greatly strengthened after watching the movie.
The emotional pull of the film is also bringing back audiences who had long abandoned the theater experience. For instance, Gayatri Devi shared that she had not set foot inside a cinema hall in approximately 15 years, but the immense talk surrounding 'Hanuman Ansh' and its sacred theme motivated her to break that streak and watch it alongside her family. Another viewer, Pallavi Kumari, praised the realistic performances of the cast, stating that the actors delivered highly grounded and authentic performances that allowed the audience to form an immediate emotional connection with the characters, devoid of any artificiality. On the other hand, some viewers like Urmila Devi felt that the film's conclusion was somewhat abrupt and incomplete. However, she expressed optimism that the creators would soon release Part-2 to continue the inspiring narrative of Neem Karoli Baba's life.
