Kavita Mahato, whose remarkable determination captured national attention when footage of her running a race in traditional attire surfaced online, saw her aspiration of joining the home guards fall short in Ramgarh. The recruitment drive in Jharkhand tested candidates across multiple physical standards, and while she successfully cleared the initial running phase, she stumbled at the subsequent athletic hurdles. Despite her earlier viral fame, failing the mandatory jump events meant her selection could not materialize, leaving her short of securing the uniform she had trained so hard to wear.
How the Saree-Clad Runner Gained Attention
Residing in Soso village within the Dulmi block, Kavita Mahato initially drew widespread public notice when a video recorded her completing a sixteen hundred meter run completely barefoot while draped in a saree. The visual of her strenuous effort resonated deeply across digital platforms, turning her into an overnight symbol of grit and perseverance. Following the intense media coverage of her feat, Dumri MLA Jairam Mahato personally visited her residence to offer encouragement. During the visit, he presented her with sports shoes, a tracksuit, and a t-shirt to support her athletic pursuits.
Rigorous Selection Standards at Ramgarh Ground
The physical efficiency tests for the home guard recruitment are currently underway at the Sidhu-Kanhu District Ground in Ramgarh, having recently marked the third day of trials for male candidates from the Mandu block beginning as early as five in the morning. Aspirants face a demanding series of evaluations including the sixteen hundred meter run, high jump, long jump, and shot put. To ensure absolute fairness and transparency, authorities have deployed CCTV cameras, videography teams, and overhead drones across the venue. Additionally, candidates are fitted with sensor-enabled RFID chips on their ankles to record precise timing during the running events.
Thousands Vie for Limited Vacancies
Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Rituraj is personally overseeing the entire recruitment procedure to maintain strict compliance. The current drive aims to fill two hundred eighty-four home guard positions across the district, drawing an overwhelming response with over sixteen thousand applicants submitting their names. The physical trials are scheduled to continue through November fifth. Although Kavita Mahato's inspiring journey touched many hearts and came to represent raw dedication, she was ultimately unable to conquer every phase of the rigorous athletic test.
