Matric and intermediate students in Jharkhand's Palamu district will now be able to access subject-wise study material online, completely free of cost. The district administration has set up a dedicated digital platform and YouTube channel called 'Palamu Ki Pathshala' to make this happen, aimed squarely at students whose schooling has suffered because their schools lack subject experts.
A Teacher's Day launch
The channel was formally launched on September 5, 2026, on the occasion of Teacher's Day, at a felicitation ceremony held at Pandit Deendayal Town Hall in Medininagar. The same event saw 43 teachers from across the district honoured for their outstanding work. Among those present were Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat, Deputy Development Commissioner Mohammad Sadat Anwar, trainee IAS officer Ritwik Mehta, District Education Officer Sandeep Kumar, the District Education Superintendent, and several other officials.
Who benefits right away
According to Shekhawat, the material has initially been prepared with class 10 and class 12 students in mind. These lessons will go up on the YouTube channel as subject-wise videos that students can watch whenever and wherever suits them. Over time, content covering every matric subject, along with subjects across the arts, commerce and science streams at the intermediate level, will keep getting added, meaning the current list is only a starting point.
Tackling a teacher shortage through video
Shekhawat said the district's shortage of teachers has directly hurt students' learning, and this digital push is meant to ease that gap. Alongside full-length lecture videos, the channel will carry short videos, objective-type questions and other material geared towards exams. Students will be free to replay a video as many times as they need to grasp a topic, without the one-shot pressure of a regular classroom session. The administration's stated goal is to reach as many students in the district as possible with quality study content.
Cash rewards for the teachers behind the content
Teachers who prepared the videos and study material for 'Palamu Ki Pathshala' were separately recognised at the same ceremony for their contribution. Among the 43 teachers honoured on Teacher's Day, two of them, Dr Raj Kumar and Mahendra Prasad, received a cash award of Rs 15,000 each for their outstanding work.
Studying from home becomes possible
The administration expects this initiative to particularly help students whose schools do not have an expert teacher for a given subject. Such students can now watch and understand course-related content on a mobile phone or computer from home. Going forward, the plan is for 'Palamu Ki Pathshala' to make useful, good-quality study material easily available to every student in the district, so that a lack of resources alone does not hold back anyone's future.
