Amidst severe natural disasters and devastating floods in Nepal, a distressing report has emerged concerning the disappearance of a fifty-year-old man from Palamu district in Jharkhand. Mahendra Vishwakarma, a resident of Badanda Barwadih village under the Haidernagar block, has gone missing, leaving his family in a state of deep anxiety and turmoil. Mahendra Vishwakarma was working at a hydro power project located in the Baneshwar area of Rasuwa district in Nepal. According to his family members, he was employed as a foreman in a project managed by Andritz Hydro Private Limited. With all communication lines severed over the past few days, the family has formally appealed to the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to trace his whereabouts and bring him back safely.
Transferred to Nepal from Meghalaya
Sharing details about his assignment, the family stated that Mahendra Vishwakarma had traveled to Meghalaya on March 20 for company work. After fulfilling his duties there, he was transferred in April to the hydro power project site in Nepal, where he continued to work in his capacity as a foreman. Reports indicate that the region where he was stationed has suffered massive destruction due to recent natural calamities. The scale of the disaster in the working area has exponentially heightened the panic and worries of the family following his sudden disappearance.
Mahendra Vishwakarma's wife, Kalavati Devi, recounted that her last normal conversation with her husband took place on August 25 at around 9:45 PM. During that call, there was no indication of any impending disaster or crisis, and everything seemed routine. The next morning, on August 26 at 8:07 AM, a call was generated from Mahendra's end, but communication could not be established. Ever since that moment, his mobile phone has remained switched off, leaving the family completely cut off from him.
Company yet to provide concrete information
Kalavati Devi stated that continuous efforts are being made to gather information from the company management, but the authorities are currently only promising to investigate the matter and report back. Mahendra Vishwakarma's immediate family includes his wife Kalavati Devi, two sons, and a daughter, out of which one son and the daughter are already married. Additionally, his two brothers and other household members are eagerly waiting for his safe return and praying for his well-being.
Family gripped by fear of tragedy
The family noted that the grim situation caused by relentless floods and natural disasters in Nepal has fueled fears of an untoward incident, keeping everyone under immense distress. Kalavati Devi mentioned that most of their communication used to happen via WhatsApp, but that channel too has gone dead since August 26. The aggrieved family has urgently demanded intervention from the central government, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy, and the concerned company management to ramp up search operations for Mahendra Vishwakarma. The relatives expressed anguish that they have received no concrete news so far and the entire household is yearning to hear his voice again.
