People across Bengaluru should brace for a full six hours without electricity on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has announced a scheduled power shutdown in more than 20 parts of the city. The neighbourhoods set to be hit include Shobha City, Chokkanahalli, Police Quarters, R.K. Hegde Nagar, Shabari Nagar, New Shanti Nagar and several surrounding pockets.
Officials say the cut will run from 11 am to 5 pm. The reason is emergency maintenance work being taken up by KPTCL. Since the job is being done at the 66/11 KV Shobha City Sub-Station, every locality that draws power from it will feel the impact.
Which areas will go dark
The main areas losing power include Shobha City, Chokkanahalli, Domino's Pizza (Dive in Paradise), Noor Nagar, Ex-Servicemen Layout, Police Quarters, R.K. Hegde Nagar, Shabari Nagar, New Shanti Nagar, Kempegowda Layout and Nagenahalli Village.
Supply could also be interrupted in Regency Park, Easter Harmony Layout, Balaji Layout, Nagenahalli Gym, Slum Board, Bench Royal Layout, Thirumenahalli Village, Mittaganahalli, Kogilu Village, Bellahalli, Vidhana Soudha Layout, Karnataka College and their neighbouring stretches.
The scale BESCOM operates on
BESCOM handles power distribution across eight districts of Karnataka, namely Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Davanagere, Tumkur, Chitradurga and Ramanagara. The utility spans an area of 41,092 sq km and serves a population of over 207 lakhs.
The company runs four operating zones, the Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (North), the Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (South), the Bangalore Rural Area Zone and the Chitradurga Zone. It also has 9 Circles, 32 Divisions, 147 Sub-divisions and 534 Section Offices.
What residents should keep in mind
To follow live updates, residents can use the BESCOM Mithra mobile application. For any urgent query, dialling the 1912 helpline gets faster assistance. Heavy rains might also trigger additional faults in some northern neighbourhoods today. Before 10:00 am, make sure all medical devices and elevators have enough backup power. These small steps go a long way in keeping you safe through the scheduled maintenance window.
A fresh advisory on Gruha Jyoti
Alongside the outage notice, BESCOM has issued a new advisory tied to the Gruha Jyoti scheme. It reads, "Gruha Jyothi Scheme - Document Verification and Application Submission at Your Doorstep. BESCOM meter readers will be visiting your doorstep."
The Gruha Jyoti scheme provides free electricity of up to 200 units per household every month. Every household, whether tenants and renters or property owners, is eligible to apply. To decide who qualifies, BESCOM works out a household's average electricity consumption between April 2022 and March 2023.
