A 16-year-old minor schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, after being lured to a room. Police have booked five youths and arrested two, while a hunt is underway for the remaining suspects.

Ujjain: A shocking case of brutal sexual assault has come to light from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, where a 16-year-old minor schoolgirl was allegedly subjected to gang rape by multiple youths. According to police officials, a formal case has been registered against five individuals in connection with the horrific incident, out of which two suspects have already been apprehended by law enforcement agencies while efforts are actively underway to track down the remaining culprits who are currently on the run.

The victim went missing on September 26

According to the details provided by authorities, the sequence of events began on September 26 when the teenage girl suddenly went missing from her residence. Distressed by her sudden disappearance, her family members immediately approached the Chimanganj police station and lodged a formal kidnapping complaint. Acting swiftly on the family's plea, the local police registered an abduction case and launched an intensive search operation to locate the teenager. The very next day, on September 27, the girl returned home safely. While she initially mentioned her abduction to her relatives, her demeanor changed drastically upon returning. She appeared extremely terrified, withdrawn, and remained silent, which deeply alarmed her family members.

Noticing the drastic change in her behavior and her persistent silence, the family members gently questioned her about what had happened. Unable to hold it in any longer, the victim broke down in tears and narrated the harrowing sequence of events, leaving her family utterly devastated. Police stated that the victim disclosed how an acquaintance of her own age living in her area had called her out on the pretext of meeting on September 26. He then took her to a friend's room located within the jurisdiction of the Jiwajiganj police station area. Four other youths were already present inside the room, where all five allegedly took turns assaulting her. Following the incident, the perpetrators threatened the minor with dire consequences if she dared to disclose the ordeal to anyone.

Pocso case filed and two accused sent to custody

Recognizing the severity of the matter, a female police officer recorded the victim's detailed statement on September 28. Based on her statements, the police slapped charges under the POCSO Act, gang rape, and other relevant sections of the law. Additional SP Alok Sharma confirmed that authorities acted promptly and managed to apprehend a youth residing in the Pipalinaka area along with another minor suspect. Both arrested individuals were produced before a court on Friday, following which the adult was sent to jail while the juvenile suspect was sent to a juvenile observation home. Police added that three more accused remain at large, and their exact age status will be determined only after they are arrested and interrogated. Authorities are also questioning the family members of the absconding suspects to trace their whereabouts.
