Since its inception, the drive has become a staple of India's annual Independence Day festivities, encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes to honor the country's rich history. The 2026 edition carries special historical importance as it coincides with the 150th anniversary of India's national song, 'Vande Mataram'.
