The capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, has witnessed a growing number of cases involving fraudsters posing as senior civil servants and police officials to cheat innocent citizens. In the latest such incident within the MP Nagar police station jurisdiction, local law enforcement has successfully apprehended a con artist who masqueraded as an Indian Police Service officer and an intelligence operative of the Income Tax Department to orchestrate a lucrative job scam.
The Modus Operandi of the Impostor
The arrested suspect has been identified as Rishi Kumar Yadav, a native of Shakti Nagar, BHEL in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. At the time of his apprehension, he was residing at Meera Complex in MP Nagar Zone-2. To build an aura of absolute authority and deceive his victims, Yadav falsely claimed to be an IPS officer currently serving on deputation with the intelligence wing of the Income Tax Department. Leveraging this fabricated persona, he lured a job seeker with false promises of securing guaranteed government employment and extracted between 7 to 8 lakh rupees from the unsuspecting victim.
Police Action Following the Complaint
The fraudulent scheme unravelled when the victim failed to secure any employment and realized he had been duped, prompting him to approach the local police station with a formal written complaint on August 29. Acting swiftly upon the grievance, the MP Nagar police registered a formal case and immediately launched a thorough investigation. A dedicated team was formed to track down the elusive suspect before he could flee the area.
Raid and Court Appearance
Acting on intelligence gathered during the probe, the police team raided the suspect's current hideout at Meera Complex in MP Nagar Zone-2 and took him into custody. Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a court of law. Investigators are currently working to recover the full extent of the swindled money and are probing whether the accused has targeted other individuals using similar fraudulent pretenses.
Official Warning to the Public
Providing details on the operation, Additional DCP Anil Sharma stated that the arrest was executed strictly based on the victim's formal complaint and that a portion of the funds has been recovered from the accused. Authorities have issued a public appeal urging citizens to remain vigilant against individuals posing as bogus IAS and IPS officers. Police emphasized that anyone encountering suspicious claims or individuals should immediately report the matter to law enforcement to prevent further criminal activities.
