A cyber fraud incident involving fake employment promises has come to light in Faridabad, Haryana, where a local youth was cheated out of Rs 89,750 under the pretext of securing a job as a 'Playboy'. Acting promptly on the victim's complaint, the Cyber Central Police Station in Faridabad cracked the case and arrested three individuals, including a woman. All three suspects reside in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and were reportedly running an organized cheating network leveraging popular social media platforms and instant messaging applications.
How the Trap Was Set via Social Media
The scam originated on Facebook, where the complainant received a friend request from an unfamiliar profile. After accepting the request, basic online conversations ensued between the victim and the suspect account before the communication shifted to WhatsApp. On August 31, the victim received an alluring job proposal via WhatsApp offering employment as a 'Playboy'. To make the proposition appear legitimate, the fraudsters initially asked the victim to pay a modest registration fee of Rs 1,200.
Extorting Rs 89,750 Through Multiple Transactions
Once the initial registration fee of Rs 1,200 was paid, the scammers escalated their demands under various pretexts, including profile processing, security clearance, and paperwork. Relying on the promise of guaranteed employment, the victim complied with multiple requests and transferred funds through several digital transactions. By the time the total money sent reached Rs 89,750, the victim realized that he had been deceived. Recognizing the scam, he approached the Cyber Central Police Station in Faridabad. Following preliminary verification, law enforcement officers launched an investigation and arrested all three suspects on Tuesday.
Rented Base of Operations in Noida Sector 58
According to details released by the Faridabad police spokesperson, suspects Firoz Khan and Prakash functioned as primary partners in the fraudulent enterprise. The duo had rented a residential room in Sector 58, Noida, which served as their operational hideout for contacting prospective victims and executing cyber frauds. The arrested woman played a critical role in the scheme by engaging the victim in prolonged conversations on WhatsApp, establishing trust, and persuading him to complete successive monetary transfers.
Suspect Educational Backgrounds and Remand
Police inquiries revealed contrasting educational backgrounds among the perpetrators. Firoz Khan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, whereas Prakash failed to complete his 12th grade education. The female accomplice, also a resident of Ghaziabad, actively managed the WhatsApp messaging operations. Following their arrest, the police produced all three individuals before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Investigators are continuing their probe to ascertain whether the syndicate has targeted other victims using similar methods.
