A shocking case of violence against a utility worker has emerged from Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh, where performing routine official duty turned into a nightmare for an electricity department staff member. An outsource employee who had arrived to record electricity bill meter readings in the Indira Nagar locality, falling under the jurisdiction of Hazira police station, was viciously attacked after a homeowner unleashed his three aggressive pet dogs on him and subsequently assaulted him with wooden sticks. The worker sustained severe bleeding wounds all over his body due to the dog bites and physical beating. Emergency assistance was called by departmental officials, and police have now registered a criminal case against the house owner, initiating a search to apprehend him.
Dispute During Meter Reading and Violent Dog Attack
According to the details of the incident, Ravindra Singh Rajawat, who works as an outsource employee with the electricity department, was navigating through his designated route to collect monthly meter readings. As he approached the residence of house owner Biru Tomar in Indira Nagar to commence the reading process, Biru Tomar called out from inside his premises to inquire whether he belonged to the electricity department. As soon as Ravindra Singh Rajawat confirmed his identity by answering in the affirmative, Biru Tomar unexpectedly flew into a rage and began hurling abusive language at the worker.
Immediately after the verbal onslaught, Biru Tomar went inside his house and brought out his three dangerous pet dogs. The animals belonged to aggressive breeds, including a Pitbull, a Rottweiler, and a German Shepherd. The homeowner deliberately set all three dogs loose on meter reader Ravindra Rajawat. The animals lunged at the employee simultaneously, knocking him to the ground and biting him repeatedly across various parts of his body, leaving him drenched in blood. While the injured worker was crying out in pain on the street, Biru Tomar further escalated the violence by picking up wooden sticks (laathi-danda) and repeatedly beating the helpless meter reader.
Staff Threatened with Death as Police Launch Hunt for Accused
Managing to survive the terrifying ordeal, the badly injured Ravindra Singh Rajawat immediately telephoned his fellow colleagues and senior officials of the electricity department to report the assault. Upon receiving the distress call, a team of department staff and senior officers rushed to the spot in Indira Nagar. However, accused Biru Tomar remained belligerent and uncooperative. When the arriving officials confronted him about the horrific attack, Biru Tomar directed foul language at the entire electricity department team as well and issued explicit death threats against them.
Recognizing the severity of the victim's injuries, the department officials immediately transported Ravindra Singh Rajawat to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Following the emergency medical admission, officials proceeded to Hazira police station to submit a formal complaint against the perpetrator. Based on the statement of injured outsource worker Ravindra Singh Rajawat and the official complaint from the department, the police registered an FIR against Biru Tomar. Police teams are currently conducting raids at multiple suspected hideouts to locate and arrest the absconding homeowner.
Rising Pattern of Pet Dog Attacks Reported Across Gwalior
This horrifying incident highlights a concerning trend of pet dog attacks across different parts of Gwalior city. Earlier this year, a similarly distressing event was reported from the Ghas Mandi area near Purani Kachhari, falling under the Murar police station limits. On the night of May 28, at around 9 PM, an 8-year-old girl was playing outside her residence with other neighborhood children. During this time, a pet dog owned by neighbor Sunil Soni was roaming freely on the street without a leash or a protective muzzle.
Sunil Soni's dog launched a sudden attack on the 8-year-old child, throwing her to the pavement and biting her leg, inflicting painful injuries. Hearing her frantic screams, family members and nearby residents rushed to the scene and managed to pull the dog away after considerable effort. In that case as well, the police had registered a formal case against dog owner Sunil Soni. Additionally, another pet dog attack was reported from the Inderganj police station area in Gwalior city, where a coaching operator was targeted by a domestic dog. The repeated occurrence of such aggressive canine attacks has sparked anxiety and anger among local residents regarding pet ownership safety enforcement.
