In a bizarre and striking criminal sequence from Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, local law enforcement authorities have apprehended a habitual offender who executed a targeted crime spree across two places of worship using a stolen bicycle. The perpetrator initially stole a high-end bicycle and subsequently rode it across two neighboring villages under the cover of night to burglarize a pair of revered temples. Swift police action led to the culprit's arrest within 24 hours of the incident, resulting in the recovery of stolen silver ornaments, cash, and the bicycle used during the commission of the offenses.
Stolen Ranger Bicycle Used as Getaway Transport Across Two Villages
According to detailed police findings, the arrested suspect has been identified as Rahul Sahare, a resident of Ward Number 10, Raja Nagar, located under the Baihar police post jurisdiction in Balaghat. Investigators revealed that Sahare systematically planned the series of thefts. He commenced his crime spree by stealing a Ranger bicycle valued at approximately Rs 15,000 from Garra, an area coming under the Kotwali police station limits. Utilizing the stolen bicycle as his primary mode of transport, he traveled to two separate villages to target local shrines.
Sahare first descended upon the old Hanuman Temple situated in the Purani Basti locality of Bharveli. Breaking inside the temple premises, he stole a sacred silver crown and emptied the cash deposited inside the temple's donation box. Continuing his illegal operation, he proceeded directly to the famous Sai Temple located in Bagholi village. Executing a similar modus operandi, he broke into the Sai Temple donation chest, making off with additional cash reserves and various silver artifacts. The back-to-back break-ins at sacred shrines caused widespread public indignation among devotees and local villagers.
Police Crack Case in 24 Hours, Recovering Property Worth Rs 70,000
Following formal complaints lodged by temple management committees and local residents, law enforcement agencies mobilized rapidly. Recognizing the public sensitivity surrounding thefts at places of worship, the Bharveli police station team collaborated with the Kotwali police team to launch a coordinated search operation. By reviewing local surveillance feeds and deploying tactical intelligence networks, officers traced and apprehended Rahul Sahare within 24 hours of the crimes being reported.
During sustained police interrogation, Sahare confessed to committing the bicycle theft as well as the break-ins at both temples. Based on his disclosure, officers successfully recovered stolen property valued at roughly Rs 55,000. The retrieved loot includes the stolen silver crown, a silver chain, a silver coin, loose cash taken from the donation chests, and other sacred articles. Additionally, police seized the Ranger bicycle worth Rs 15,000 that was utilized as transport during the crime spree, bringing the total value of recovered assets to around Rs 70,000.
Habitual Offender Linked to 10 Criminal Cases Charged and Remanded
Providing official details regarding the investigation, Kotwali Police Station Incharge Bhupendra Pandro emphasized that incidents involving religious establishments are treated with utmost priority and sensitivity. Officer Pandro disclosed that Rahul Sahare is a serial offender with an extensive criminal record. Prior to this arrest, Sahare had already been booked in approximately 10 separate cases involving theft, burglary, and physical assault registered at the Kotwali police station.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that statutory criminal charges were filed against the accused before producing him in a competent court, which remanded him into judicial custody. Notably, a comparable incident was successfully investigated earlier by Khandwa police in Madhya Pradesh, where officers solved a major Hanuman temple burglary within 24 hours, arresting an accused named Aamir and recovering stolen assets worth Rs 12 lakh, including two silver crowns and three ceremonial umbrellas (chhatras). The swift resolution of the Balaghat temple thefts has brought reassurance to local residents and temple management bodies.
