A distressing incident involving the illegal confinement and physical harassment of a minor girl has emerged from Durgapur in West Bengal. Local law enforcement officers have taken a 74-year-old man, identified as Shibaji Sau, into custody following an official criminal complaint lodged by the victim's family. A comprehensive police investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Details of the Confinement Incident in Durgapur
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the A-Zone Phandi locality in Durgapur. According to the facts reported to the police, Shibaji Sau intercepted the minor girl in the area and forcibly detained her against her will. He allegedly subjected her to physical abuse while holding her captive. The young girl began shouting for help, which alerted her family members who were nearby. Hearing her distress calls, the family rushed to the scene and managed to rescue her from the accused.
Following the rescue, the girl's family immediately reported the entire sequence of events to the Durgapur police station and filed a formal complaint. Acting promptly on the family's statement, police initiated an investigation and arrested Shibaji Sau on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, law enforcement officials produced the accused before the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court, seeking his police custody to facilitate detailed questioning.
Separate Case of Assault and Extortion in North 24 Parganas
This news comes alongside another severe crime against a minor reported recently in the North 24 Parganas district of the state. In that case, a 13-year-old girl was subjected to abduction, drugging, assault, and subsequent blackmail. According to her family, the girl had left her residence in Baguiati on Saturday, October 24, to visit a friend in Birati. She returned home the following morning between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM in a state of extreme mental shock.
The victim later disclosed to her mother that she had been taken from Birati to a hotel located in the Bandel area of Hooghly district. There, she was forced to consume a soft drink spiked with a sedative. Multiple individuals then physically assaulted and raped her. The perpetrators took explicit photographs of the incident and transmitted them to the victim's mother to blackmail the family. The family also alleged that the victim was forcibly administered an emergency contraceptive pill before being released.
