A family gathering in the rural outskirts of Indore turned tragic late Wednesday night when an ongoing domestic dispute ended in bloodshed. A 16-year-old boy fatally stabbed his 22-year-old brother-in-law in the chest during a condolence meeting held at a residential complex in the Khudail police station jurisdiction. Although relatives rushed the bleeding victim to a nearby medical facility, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The sudden violence disrupted a peaceful memorial gathering, triggering panic and chaos among the assembled relatives.
Late-Night Altercation at a Family Memorial
The violent encounter occurred at Nilgiri Parisar within the Khudail police station limits, where family members and relatives had gathered on Wednesday night for a condolence program following a bereavement. While religious hymns and devotional chanting were underway in the home, the victim, identified as Deepak, was present to attend the ceremony at the home of his elder mother-in-law. Around 2:00 AM, an exchange of words flared up between Deepak and his 16-year-old brother-in-law, quickly escalating into an intense dispute.
In the heat of the argument, the teenager retrieved a domestic kitchen knife used for cutting vegetables and struck Deepak forcefully in the chest. Stricken by the blow, Deepak cried out in agony and collapsed onto the floor in a pool of blood. Alarmed by his screams, relatives who were seated inside listening to bhajans rushed into the area and found Deepak critically wounded. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where medical staff attempted to save him, but he died during treatment due to the severity of the wound.
Lingering Resentment Over an Interpersonal Marriage
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Deepak, son of Gopal, residing in Barotha within Dewas district. Approximately two years ago, Deepak had entered into a love marriage with a young woman from the Khudail area. The union was strongly opposed by the woman's family at the time, leading them to sever all communication and maintain distance from the newlywed couple for an extended period.
As time elapsed, the family members began easing their stance, gradually accepting the relationship and re-establishing informal ties. Deepak had even resumed regular visits to his in-laws' residence. Despite this apparent reconciliation among older family members, the woman's teenage brother harbored deep-seated resentment regarding the marriage and continued to hold a grudge against Deepak.
Suspect Detained as Police Open Murder Investigation
Following the stabbing and the victim's death, law enforcement authorities were notified, and teams from the local police station responded immediately. Khudail police station in-charge Karan Singh Shaktawat stated that the 16-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the homicide. During initial questioning, the teenager disclosed details regarding the conflict that preceded the fatal attack.
According to the police, the suspect claimed that Deepak had been persistently intimidating and threatening him because the boy refused to speak to him. When the disagreement reignited in the early hours of the morning, tempers flared, leading the boy to grab the kitchen knife and stab Deepak in the chest. Investigators have registered a case regarding the murder and are conducting a thorough inquiry to document the full sequence of events.
