Madhya Pradesh has finally got a break from the sweltering humidity, with light to moderate rain and gusty, thundery showers sweeping through several districts on Sunday and pulling temperatures down. The pace of the monsoon has slowed for now, but the weather department says heavy rain could return to the state in the coming days. For today, Monday, July 20, 2026, a yellow alert is in force across most districts, three districts face a heavy rain warning, and five districts are expected to see normal weather.
Heavy rain warning for Damoh, Mandla and Dindori
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhopal, Damoh, Mandla and Dindori districts are under a heavy rain warning today, with rainfall expected to range from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. Strong winds and lightning are also forecast in these three districts, and residents there have been urged to take extra precautions.
Five districts stay calm, the rest brace for thunderstorms
Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Ujjain and Agar-Malwa are expected to have normal weather today, with no heavy rain or storm warning issued for these areas. In the remaining districts of the state, thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are forecast. The weather department has asked residents in these districts to stay alert as well, given the risk of damage from strong winds and lightning strikes.

- Avoid leaning against concrete walls or lying down on concrete floors.

- Do not leave animals near open fields, ponds, rivers or other water sources.
- Keep all animals in a safe, covered shed at night.
- Do not send animals out for open grazing during the intense afternoon heat.
- Ensure adequate drinking water and shaded areas for animals.
- Do not tether animals under trees during lightning and storms.
