A major disaster was narrowly averted on Monday morning along the Rau-Khalghat four-lane highway situated in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. A heavy truck loaded with a massive consignment of onions suddenly caught a massive fire near Ganpati Ghat, triggering panic in the area. The flames spread with such intensity that the entire cabin of the vehicle was completely gutted and reduced to ashes. However, the saving grace of the incident was that no casualties or injuries were reported, leaving both the truck driver and the helper completely safe.
Lakhs Worth of Onions and Timely Response
According to available details, the unfortunate incident took place around 6:30 AM. The truck, bearing registration number RJ 14 GK 5512, was traveling from the direction of Dhamnod toward Indore. While ascending the incline at Ganpati Ghat, the driver noticed smoke emerging from the cabin area. Within moments, the smoke transformed into raging flames, engulfing the entire front section of the vehicle. The truck was heavily loaded with onions valued at lakhs of rupees.
Truck driver Anwar Khan stated that he had loaded the consignment of onions from Chopra and was en route to Gurugram. The fire is suspected to have broken out due to a sudden short circuit while climbing the slope at Ganpati Ghat. Upon receiving information regarding the blaze, fire tenders from Dhamnod and Mandav rushed to the scene immediately. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour before successfully bringing the situation under control. Because the fire was extinguished in a timely manner, the vast majority of the onions loaded in the vehicle were saved from destruction.
Police and Fire Department Intervention
Anticipating potential traffic disruptions along the Ganpati Ghat route following the fire, two Dial-112 emergency response vehicles from Dhamnod promptly arrived at the location. FRV-20 pilot Deepak Nigwal, constable Indrapal Lodhi, and the pilot of FRV-21 utilized fire sprays to prevent the flames from spreading further into the truck's wiring and diesel lines. They also managed the surrounding traffic movement effectively to prevent severe congestion. The prompt coordination between police and firefighting teams ensured that a potential catastrophe was successfully avoided.
Meanwhile, the central government has taken significant steps to curb soaring onion prices across retail markets, offloading stocks from its buffer reserves to provide relief to consumers.
