A major disaster was averted on the Bharatmala Expressway in Jodhpur on Tuesday when a chemical-laden tanker suddenly caught a massive fire. The incident triggered panic in the surrounding area as the flames erupted unexpectedly. The mishap occurred ahead of the Sarmandi toll plaza on the highway, creating an atmosphere of chaos on the route.
Tanker Was En Route from Punjab to Gujarat
The ill-fated tanker was on its way from Punjab toward Gujarat when the accident took place. The vehicle bore the registration number GJ 12 BZ 8408. The tanker was heavily loaded with benzene chemical, which caused the fire to escalate rapidly and take a dangerous form. As soon as the blaze started in the moving vehicle, authorities were alerted to manage the emergency.
Multiple Firefighting Units Deployed
Recognizing the extreme hazard posed by the burning chemical, multiple fire tenders from Jodhpur and Phalodi were rushed to the spot. The firefighting operation involved collaborative efforts from the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation, Phalodi Municipal Council, and Civil Defence teams. The various units worked in tandem to douse the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Operations Led by Senior Officers
The rescue and firefighting operation was spearheaded by Chief Fire Officer Jai Singh Chauhan. Assistant Fire Officer Prashant Singh Chauhan was also present at the site to oversee and guide the tactical response. Under their leadership, the firefighters worked relentlessly for a long duration to bring the roaring flames under control.
Dedication of Fire Personnel
The arduous task of extinguishing the blaze was carried out by a dedicated team of firefighters including Mohanram, Madan, Kapil Goond, Mahendra Singh, and Arvind Meena alongside other crew members. Through hours of strenuous effort, the team successfully subdued the fire. While the exact cause behind the sudden ignition in the moving tanker remains unconfirmed, prompt action prevented a larger catastrophe on the expressway.
