Ahead of the upcoming festive season, social fairs, and religious gatherings, the Madhya Pradesh government has stepped up its security and law enforcement posture across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired a high-level review meeting via video conferencing from the state secretariat with all district collectors, commissioners, superintendents of police, and inspector generals. During the session, he made it clear that no laxity in security arrangements would be tolerated during the celebrations. He warned that if any adverse or untoward situation arises in any district, the respective collector and superintendent of police will be held directly accountable. The Chief Minister also reviewed the field implementation of various flagship state government schemes and developmental programs during the meeting.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed officials to step up monitoring in sensitive pockets across their respective districts to ensure that no social or communal tensions are allowed to brew. Necessary preventive and protective measures must be enforced in advance. Special vigilance is to be maintained over suspicious individuals and antisocial elements in crowded public spaces throughout the Diwali festival. Regular and effective patrolling must be carried out in these areas, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety of women.
Addressing the regulations surrounding firecrackers, the Chief Minister directed that all mandatory conditions must be strictly enforced while issuing licenses for firecracker shops. Authorities were instructed to conduct physical verifications and inspections of vendors' premises. Illegal storage of explosive materials must not be tolerated anywhere, and prompt legal action must follow if any unlawful stockpiling is uncovered. The purchase, sale, storage, and usage of banned firecrackers must be effectively intercepted and blocked.
To prevent potential accidents during the festive rush, local administrations have been told to remain on high alert. The Chief Minister placed special emphasis on enforcing a strict ban on local-made carbide guns and carbide lamps, citing the severe hazards they pose to human life. Furthermore, authorities must ensure the availability of fire tenders, firefighting equipment, and trained staff at sensitive locations during Diwali. Ambulances should be stationed at key points, and nearby hospitals and health centers must be placed on prior alert with designated medical rosters. Adequate street lighting must be arranged along major thoroughfares and sensitive areas in cities and towns.
Hazards Associated with Carbide Guns
The meeting detailed the severe dangers posed by the use of carbide guns. When calcium carbide comes into contact with water during the operation of these devices, the resulting acetylene gas is highly flammable and can trigger an explosion from even a minor spark. Such explosions propel small plastic and metal fragments outward, causing severe injuries to the eyes, face, and skin. The burning acetylene gas also carries a significant risk of severe burns and skin damage. In connection with these hazards, the Department of Public Health and Medical Education had already issued an advisory in the year 2025.
Strict Surveillance on Firecracker Storage and Sales
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated that all district collectors and superintendents of police must maintain strict watch over the stocking, buying, and selling of fireworks. This is intended to ensure that small-scale traders are not subjected to unnecessary harassment while simultaneously safeguarding public life and property. All necessary provisions must be put in place to avert fire-related accidents during the festive celebrations.
Zero Tolerance for Food Adulteration
The Chief Minister directed officials to clamp down aggressively on food adulteration throughout the upcoming festive period. He emphasized that the sale of spurious or adulterated mava, ghee, paneer, and sweets must be completely prevented. Departmental figures presented during the review showed that 17 licenses have been suspended so far in connection with adulteration, while First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered in 42 separate cases.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed officials to conduct intensive inspection drives across food establishments. Whenever adulteration is suspected, food samples must be collected, and food items should be seized where necessary. Special teams are to be constituted across districts to maintain continuous oversight on adulteration prevention. However, he cautioned that traders must not be harassed unnecessarily during the sampling and seizure procedures. Establishments operating in unhygienic and unsanitary conditions for manufacturing or selling food products must face strict legal action under the Food Safety Act.
