Background of Elopement, Criminal Case, and Birth of Child
The incident originated from a complex background of a romantic relationship and subsequent legal troubles. Golu, a resident of Surpura village under the jurisdiction of the Ater police station in Bhind district, was involved in a relationship with a woman residing in neighboring Uttar Pradesh. Some time ago, Golu had eloped with the woman. Following a formal complaint lodged by the woman's family, law enforcement authorities recovered the pair, and Golu was remanded to prison after being charged with abduction and rape.
While Golu was serving time in judicial custody, the woman gave birth to a baby girl. After obtaining bail from court, Golu was recently released from prison. Upon his release, he traveled directly to the woman's parental residence located within the limits of the Khaira Rathore police station in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh. Golu demanded that the family hand over the infant daughter so he could raise her. However, the woman's family refused his request. Stung by their outright refusal, Golu left the premises in extreme distress.
Drama at Chambal Bridge and Emergency Call
Enraged and distraught by the family's refusal to hand over the child, Golu made his way to the middle of the under-construction bridge spanning the Chambal River between Jaitpur and Ater. In a desperate bid, he scaled the safety wire mesh fitted along the bridge edge and hung perilously over the water below, shouting threats to plunge into the river.
Commuters travelling along the bridge spotted the young man hanging in the hazardous position and immediately alerted law enforcement authorities via the emergency Dial-112 hotline. Recognizing the emergency, dispatchers immediately mobilized police stations from both sides of the state border.
Joint Cross-Border Rescue Operation
Teams from the Ater police station in Madhya Pradesh and the Khaira Rathore police station in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, arrived at the spot simultaneously.
