A distressing incident from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has exposed severe administrative apathy during natural calamities. In Gram Panchayat Rauli, located within the Sirmour assembly constituency, severe flooding created harrowing conditions for a grieving family trying to bring their deceased relative home for final rites. Motilal Tiwari, a resident of Rauli village, passed away while undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa. When his remains were being transported back to the village, widespread waterlogging completely blocked all pathways. The flood levels were so extreme that entering the village on foot or via standard vehicles became entirely impossible.
Villagers Build Makeshift Watercraft Using Plastic Drums

Adopting a resourceful approach, community members tightly bound several empty plastic drums together to create a makeshift raft. The mortal remains were placed atop these floating drums, and villagers navigated through strong currents and deep waters to safely bring the body home. The family then completed the final cremation rituals with tearful eyes and heavy hearts. Allegations Against the Woman Sarpanch and Local Officials
Following the incident, angry villagers and family members lashed out at local leadership, accusing them of utter callousness. According to the grieving relatives, when they approached the female sarpanch, her brother-in-law, and employment assistant Vivek Tiwari for help in crossing the waterlogged path, they flatly refused, claiming it was not their responsibility. Residents pointed out that while natural disaster had already paralyzed normal life and cut off transit routes, forcing people to rely on plastic drums just to accord a deceased person a dignified final journey highlights a complete breakdown of grassroots administration.
