A minor dispute over clearing a blocked road late at night turned fatal in the Damdama area under the Madhav Nagar police station limits in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred between 2 AM on Thursday and Friday when a 27-year-old tractor showroom owner was brutally killed after asking a group of young men standing on the road to move aside. The victim, Yash Mittal, originally hailed as a native of Tarana and operated a tractor showroom near the Agar Road Mandi. He had been living with his family in the Rishi Nagar Extension area of Ujjain for quite some time. On the fateful night, Yash was driving his car to drop off his friends, including Abhay Vyas and Mangal, at their flats in Sethi Nagar.
Escalation over honking leads to brutal assault
As Yash's vehicle reached the Damdama turn near the district panchayat office, the way was blocked by seven to eight youths who had parked their motorcycles in the middle of the road. Yash blew the horn and requested them to clear the path so he could pass. Instead of moving, the group started hurling abuses and flatly refused to step aside. When Yash honked a second time, the youths lost their temper, smashed the windows of the car, and began physically assaulting Yash and his companions. Terrified by the sudden aggression, the five friends managed to escape from the vehicle and rushed to the Madhav Nagar police station to seek urgent help, pleading with officers that their friend was trapped behind and needed immediate rescue.
Three-hour frantic search ends in tragedy
Acting swiftly upon the distress call, police personnel accompanied the panicked friends back to the scene of the crime. However, upon arrival, neither the attackers nor Yash could be found anywhere nearby. A desperate search operation ensued, with police and the victim's friends scouring the surrounding lanes for nearly three hours. Finally, around 5 AM, Yash was discovered lying unconscious and covered in blood behind a photocopy shop just outside the district panchayat building. He was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately, where attending doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Investigators later confirmed that the attackers had stabbed Yash in the abdomen during the scuffle.
All seven accused rounded up as police show strictness
Following the high-profile murder, the police registered an official case and successfully identified seven suspects involved in the crime. Four of the accused were apprehended a day earlier and secured a two-day police remand, while the remaining three suspects were taken into custody today. Before presenting them in court, law enforcement authorities took the accused back to the exact crime spot to reconstruct the sequence of events. A furious crowd had gathered at the location, visibly angered by the brutal killing. As some of the accused initially attempted to display arrogance at the scene, the police resorted to using lathis to break their defiance.
Accused seen begging for forgiveness
The police action did not stop there, as officers marched the suspects on foot for about half a kilometer while administering regular baton strikes along the way. While the public expressed satisfaction over the stern policing, the accused, who had been showing attitude earlier, were seen begging for forgiveness and apologizing publicly at the square. Authorities are continuing their legal proceedings against all seven arrested individuals to ensure a thorough investigation into the tragic homicide.
