Political circles in Maharashtra are once again witnessing massive turmoil centered around NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar, who is currently admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Following his hospitalization, intense speculations began swirling across the state regarding a potential merger between the two factional groups of the Nationalist Congress Party, with rumors suggesting that Pawar might cross over to the NDA. Amid this flurry of political discussions, senior Congress leader and MLA Vijay Wadettiwar has come forward with a strong rebuttal, asserting firmly that Sharad Pawar will not join the NDA.
Putting Rest to Rumours of Pawar Joining NDA
When asked by reporters about whether any discussions were underway regarding Sharad Pawar's potential alliance with the NDA, the Congress leader offered a direct and decisive response. Vijay Wadettiwar stated that he does not believe Pawar will ever move toward the NDA. Highlighting the veteran leader's political legacy, Wadettiwar noted that Pawar has always stood apart as a leader dedicated to advancing progressive programs and ideologies. Over the course of many decades and specifically through the past 15 years, Pawar has remained seated firmly in the opposition benches without ever contemplating such a compromise, even when his own party suffered a major split.
Wadettiwar further elaborated that right up until his final breath, Sharad Pawar's stated resolve is to march forward carrying the foundational ideals of social reformers like Jyotirao Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He emphasized that these core principles leave no room for such an alliance. Addressing the hospital visits, the Congress leader pointed out that when a senior leader like Pawar falls ill, it is entirely natural for people from various walks of life to visit and inquire about his health, meaning these courtesy meetings carry no political weight. He reiterated that he sees zero possibility of Pawar either joining or supporting the NDA.
Categorically Rejecting Any NCP Merger Prospects
Addressing the discussions surrounding a potential merger between the two factions of the NCP, senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar stated unequivocally that it will not happen. He explained that following the departure of Ajit Dada, the current state of the NCP is plagued by severe internal turmoil and deep-seated friction between opposing camps. The two factions have grown so far apart that neither side is willing to accept the leadership of the other, creating permanent chasms within the organization.
Targeting the motives behind some leaders, Wadettiwar remarked that individuals who find themselves under intense pressure from ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigations are desperately trying to cling to power simply to shield themselves from going to jail. He noted that this survival mindset drives a select group of politicians whose legal probes have advanced significantly. Criticizing the ruling party's political tactics, he added that the Bharatiya Janata Party has historically followed a pattern of first leveling corruption allegations against opponents and subsequently inducting those very individuals into their own party.
