Gearing up for the upcoming biennial elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council, the Bharatiya Janata Party has officially announced its candidates for three key seats. The nominations, sanctioned by the BJP Central Election Committee, cover the state's graduate and teacher constituencies for the 2026 MLC elections. In this initial release from the party's national headquarters, names for three electoral divisions have been finalized.
Candidates Named Across Pune and Nagpur Constituencies
According to the official list, Dr. Smita Yogesh Jadhav will contest as the party's nominee from the Pune Division Graduates constituency. For the Nagpur Division Graduates seat, the party has fielded Sudhakar Vitthalrao Kohale. Meanwhile, Kaustubh Murlidhar Gawande has been chosen to represent the party in the Pune Division Teachers constituency.
Strengthening Representation in the Upper House
By declaring candidates across these three specialized seats, the party aims to consolidate its presence within the state legislature's upper chamber. Securing wins in graduate and teacher segments forms a central part of the broader strategy for these biennial elections, where educators and degree holders cast their ballots directly.
Official Polling Schedule Awaited
While the party has finalized its contenders early, the formal schedule for the electoral contest has not been released yet. The Election Commission will announce the exact voting dates, nomination deadlines, and procedural guidelines in a separate notification.
