A tragic incident unfolded at the historic Shivaji Park in Mumbai during a massive political rally held on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. The Cockroach Janata Party, expanding its agitation following demonstrations in Delhi, gathered thousands of young protesters to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, the rally took a somber turn when a 75-year-old spectator collapsed on the ground and later passed away at a nearby medical facility.
Sudden Chest Pain Amid Protest Crowds
The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Gopalkrishna Subbaiah Pillai, who had arrived at Shivaji Park around 4:30 PM simply to witness the gathering. Within half an hour, around 5:00 PM, he began complaining of severe chest pain and collapsed, sparking immediate panic among the gathered crowds.
Emergency CPR and Hospitalisation
Bystanders immediately rushed to administer CPR on the spot in an effort to revive him, moments that were also captured in videos shared across social media platforms. Following the emergency first-aid attempts, his companion and on-duty police personnel swiftly transported him to Sushrusha Hospital situated in the Shivaji Park area. Despite receiving medical treatment at the hospital, he succumbed to the cardiac arrest.
