A shocking criminal conspiracy combining cyber manipulation and deep-rooted superstition has emerged from Neri village in Chimur tehsil of Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, raising serious concerns over the misuse of modern technology in rural areas. A 60-year-old man engineered an elaborate trap involving voice modulation tools, astrological threats, and fake identities to mentally harass and sexually exploit a widowed relative. However, the sinister plot collapsed when an automatic call recording feature on the victim's late husband's mobile phone enabled her to expose the perpetrator's identity.
The Web of Superstition and Voice Modulation
According to the facts of the case, the victim had recently lost her husband to cancer and was navigating profound grief. Taking advantage of her vulnerable state, her neighbor, identified as Dattu Pise, devised a plan to coerce her into compliance. Pise posed as a female government official named Vidya Gokhale, claiming to possess supernatural and divine powers. Utilizing voice modulation technology or a voice changer application to alter his vocal pitch and tone, he made repeated phone calls to the widow. During these conversations, he warned her that if she refused to establish physical relations with her neighbor Dattu Pise, catastrophic divine wrath would destroy her and her remaining family members.
How Call Recordings Unmasked the Deception
Despite the frightening nature of the supernatural threats, the widow carefully evaluated the strange telephone calls. Her late husband had maintained an active setting on his smartphone that automatically recorded every incoming and outgoing call, which proved to be the decisive piece of evidence. As the victim replayed the saved audio recordings, she analyzed the speech cadence, regional phrasing, and specific tone of the caller. Upon closer inspection, she recognized that the alleged female officer Vidya Gokhale was actually her neighbor Dattu Pise using a disguised voice to manipulate her psychologically. Recognizing the fraud, she immediately reported the incident to the Chimur Police Station and handed over the smartphone containing all stored call recordings as physical evidence.
Police Investigation and Suspect's Background
Based on the victim's formal complaint and the submitted digital evidence, the Chimur police registered a criminal case against Dattu Pise under relevant charges pertaining to fraud, mental harassment, and physical torture. As soon as the police complaint was filed, the accused fled Neri village to evade arrest, prompting law enforcement authorities to launch search operations to track him down. Regarding his background, 60-year-old Dattu Pise previously served as a BJP tehsil vice president before being expelled from the political party for anti-party activities. At the time of the incident, he held an active position as a director in the Chimur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC). Investigating officers noted that the setup mirrored the high-profile Ashok Kharat case reported in Nashik, demonstrating how perpetrators blend superstition with modern communication tools to orchestrate intimidation.
