The Maharashtra government has announced a major relief measure for devotees traveling from Mumbai to their hometowns in Konkan to celebrate Ganeshotsav. To ease traffic congestion and reduce the financial burden on travelers during the festive season, the state administration has decided to waive toll fees entirely on selected routes. This special exemption will remain in effect from September 11 to September 27, 2026. During this period, personal and passenger vehicles heading towards Konkan will not be required to pay any toll charges at designated checkpoints.
Key Routes Covered Under the Toll Exemption
According to Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, the toll waiver applies to several major and heavily traveled corridors. These include the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway-48 and the Mumbai-गोवा (Goa) National Highway-66. Additionally, routes falling under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation heading towards Konkan will be covered. Furthermore, devotees commuting via the Atal Setu route from Mumbai towards Navi Mumbai will also enjoy the benefits of this toll-free travel scheme.

Mandatory Special Pass Required to Avail Toll Waiver
To ensure smooth implementation and verify eligible travelers, the authorities have introduced a mandatory special sticker or pass named 'Ganeshotsav 2026 Konkan Darshan'. This pass must be displayed prominently on vehicles and will feature the vehicle registration number along with the driver's name. Distribution points are being established across local police stations, traffic police outposts, and RTO offices to make obtaining the pass convenient. Notably, this official pass will remain valid for both onward travel and the return journey.
MSRTC Buses to Operate Toll Free
Public transport users have also been included in this festive initiative. State transport MSRTC buses operating from various districts toward Konkan and Kolhapur will be fully exempted from toll fees during the festival. In view of the anticipated heavy rush and potential bottlenecks at toll plazas, the transport department, traffic branch, and local law enforcement agencies have been instructed to coordinate closely and manage traffic flow efficiently to prevent commuting delays.

Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale emphasized that Ganeshotsav is a cornerstone of Maharashtra culture and public devotion, noting that the initiative aims to ensure a safe, smooth, and economically unburdened journey for all worshippers.
