Two separate alarming incidents have emerged from Maharashtra's Thane district. In the first case, police intercepted and arrested a man transporting his partner's dead body inside a car. The suspect had allegedly murdered her in Kolhapur before driving hundreds of kilometers to Thane to dispose of the body. In a second tragic event in Thane's Mumbra area, a 13-year-old girl lost her life after a second-floor gallery slab of a 38-year-old residential building collapsed onto the floor below. Emergency services responded immediately to both situations.
Man Transported Partner's Body From Kolhapur to Thane
According to details released by the police on Tuesday, the arrested suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Prakash Anand Patil. He is a resident of Shirgaon village, located in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. Initial investigations reveal that Prakash suspected his female partner of having an extra-marital affair with another man. Driven by this suspicion, he allegedly strangled her to death at Kolhapur.
Following the murder, the suspect placed the victim's body inside his car with the intention of hiding or destroying evidence elsewhere. He drove all the way from Kolhapur to Thane to find a spot to dispose of the corpse. However, police intelligence led to his swift apprehension in Thane. Officers arrested Prakash Anand Patil and seized the vehicle, launching a comprehensive investigation into the murder and attempt to conceal evidence.
Fatal Slab Collapse at 38-Year-Old Mumbra Building
In a separate incident in Thane district, tragedy struck Amrut Nagar in the Mumbra area. The gallery slab on the second floor of Faiyaz Apartment suddenly gave way and crashed onto the first floor. The building structure, which is reported to be nearly 38 years old, suffered severe damage during the incident, leaving six individuals trapped under the falling concrete debris.
Upon receiving the emergency alert, teams from the local fire brigade, Disaster Management Cell, TDRF, and Mumbra Police quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene. Emergency personnel initiated a rapid rescue operation to clear the rubble and rescue the trapped occupants.
Young Girl Succumbs to Injuries; Building Evacuated
Rescuers successfully pulled all six trapped individuals out from under the debris. While five of them were rescued safely without life-threatening injuries, 13-year-old Asma Kadar Shaikh sustained critical injuries during the collapse. She was immediately rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for urgent medical attention. However, attending doctors pronounced the young girl dead upon arrival.
Following the fatal accident, civic authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of the entire Faiyaz Apartment structure to prevent further risk to human life. Around 70 to 80 residents living in the building were safely evacuated and relocated. The Thane Municipal Corporation has set up temporary accommodation facilities for the displaced families at Municipal Schools number 78 and 123.
