A minor vehicular collision escalated into a serious criminal offense in Mumbai when a woman driving a luxury BMW allegedly attempted to run over an on-duty traffic police officer who stepped in to resolve the situation. The confrontation occurred in the prominent Juhu neighborhood, prompting swift intervention by local law enforcement, who subsequently detained and formally arrested the female driver after an official complaint was lodged.
Dispute Triggered by Road Collision
The sequence of events unfolded along NS Road Number 10, right at the Sangeet Mahabharati Junction situated directly opposite the Prateeksha bungalow in Juhu. According to officials, a minor collision occurred between the BMW driven by the accused woman and a WagonR car. The incident quickly led to a heated roadside argument between the drivers, attracting attention and disrupting regular vehicular movement in the bustling corridor.
Intervention by Traffic Personnel
Observing the escalating confrontation, traffic police constable Prashant Gokul Hake, who was posted nearby to regulate flow and maintain order, stepped forward to intervene. Aiming to mediate the dispute and ensure that necessary legal formalities were fulfilled, Constable Hake instructed the BMW driver to halt her vehicle and cooperate with police procedures. However, rather than complying with official directives, the woman behind the wheel chose to disregard the instructions entirely.
Attempt to Mow Down On-Duty Officer
When the driver refused to bring her car to a stop, Constable Prashant Gokul Hake positioned himself directly in front of the BMW to prevent her from fleeing the scene. Disregarding the officer standing in her direct path, the woman allegedly accelerated and attempted to drive the vehicle over him. The officer narrowly avoided severe injury, while a bystander captured the entire ordeal on video from the sidewalk, footage that subsequently circulated widely across social media networks.
Police Complaint and Criminal Charges
Following the alarming confrontation, Constable Hake reported the matter to the Juhu police station, leading to immediate legal action. Authorities registered a case against the female driver under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 132, 125, and 351(2), which pertain to using criminal force against a public servant, acts endangering life or personal safety, and criminal intimidation. Additionally, Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act was invoked for dangerous driving. Police initially detained the motorist before formally placing her under arrest, with further investigation underway at the Juhu police station.
