Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has revealed that frequent shutdowns and blockades across the state inflict an estimated daily loss of Rs 25 to 30 crore in tax revenue on the government exchequer.

While speaking at a Seva Sankalp Abhiyan event hosted at the Indian National Army Martyr’s Memorial Complex Hall in Bishnupur district, Singh urged citizens to settle their grievances through constructive dialogue rather than resorting to disruptive agitations that paralyze everyday life. He noted that the protracted crisis gripping Manipur since 2023 has severely battered the regional economy and generated monumental financial deficits.
Relief Measures for Vulnerable Households
The prolonged economic downturn has disproportionately impacted families whose livelihoods depend entirely on daily wages. Following thorough deliberations in the recently concluded eighth session of the assembly, the state administration decided to disburse financial aid of Rs 10,000 each to approximately 3,00,050 families. Necessary budgetary provisions have already been secured to implement this welfare package smoothly.
Support for Women Vendors and Regional Unity
In addition to relief payouts, the Chief Minister announced the launch of a special financial assistance scheme tailored for women street vendors ahead of Ningol Chakouba, 2026, aimed at helping them manage daily household expenses. Individuals who remain unregistered can complete their enrollment through their respective local MLAs. Furthermore, he advised residents to critically evaluate leaders who claim to protect Manipur but refuse to visit the hill areas, encouraging everyone to explore those regions personally.
Marking Governance Milestones
The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is currently being observed nationwide to mark 25 years of public service delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while propagating the core tenets of good governance. Singh concluded with a passionate plea for all communities to set aside their differences and collaborate for the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur. Previously, the Manipur government issued strict warnings against unlawful road obstructions.
