In an effort to advance infrastructure and foster reconciliation, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday inaugurated five development initiatives across the Keirao Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district. Addressing an official gathering at Arapti Lilong Mapal Kangjeibung, he urged citizens across political and community spectrums to put aside differences and collaborate actively toward restoring stability and normalcy throughout the state.
Commitment to Resettling Displaced Families
Addressing the ongoing crisis, Khemchand Singh acknowledged the severe distress endured by affected residents on both sides of the conflict. He noted that during his regular interactions with internally displaced persons (IDPs), many expressed an earnest desire to return to their ancestral localities. The Chief Minister affirmed that the state administration is committed to making every possible administrative and logistical effort to enable their safe return.
Highlighting the broader stakes, Singh stressed that establishing lasting peace is fundamental for social progress and for protecting the prospects of younger generations. He called upon members of all 36 communities residing in Manipur to play a proactive role in preventing any further escalation or renewed clashes.
Historical Lessons in Collective Unity
Reflecting on the historical Seven Years Devastation during the Manipur-Burmese War from 1819 CE to 1826 CE, Khemchand Singh reminded the audience of the collective resolve shown by regional ancestors. He recalled how leaders from various local ethnic groups, including the Naga, Kuki, Meitei, and Meitei Pangal communities, joined forces at different junctures to drive Burmese forces out of Manipur territory, proving that solidarity in the face of adversity is woven into the region's heritage.
Speaking alongside the Chief Minister, Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei voiced strong confidence that peace would eventually return to the state, urging all sections of society to rally behind administrative efforts to re-establish normalcy.
Overview of the Five Newly Inaugurated Projects
The newly unveiled works encompass local commerce, regional connectivity, women's welfare, and community athletics
- Modern Agro Market Complex: Developed at Kiyamgei with backing from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), this dedicated Nupi Keithel facility provides structured trading infrastructure for local agricultural vendors.
- Bridge over the Imphal River: Built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), this reinforced concrete bridge at Elangbam Mapa significantly improves local connectivity across the waterway.
- Bridge over the Iril River: Also constructed under PMGSY, this second RCC bridge is situated at Urup Litan Mapa to streamline transport and commute times.
- Working Women’s Hostel: Located at Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai, this accommodation facility was completed with financial assistance from MOBEDS to assist employed women.
- Community Sports and Drainage Infrastructure: An RCC gallery, dedicated football pitch, and surrounding drainage system were formally opened at Arapati Lilong Mapal Kangjeibung.
Marking the occasion, the Chief Minister wrote on X that he had the privilege of inaugurating these vital development works, including the sports gallery, Ema market, two bridges, and the hostel under the Keirao constituency.
