A violent ambush targeted Naga civilians in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Thursday morning around 8:30 am, leaving four people dead, one injured, and another missing. Armed assailants launched the surprise attack along a critical stretch of the IT Road situated between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga. This specific roadway serves as a vital everyday lifeline for the Naga communities residing along the IT Road corridor.
Details of Victims and Community Leaders Involved
The sudden gunfire resulted in the deaths of four individuals, several of whom were active community figures and youth leaders. The deceased have been identified as Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, the founder and principal of Right Path School located in T. Khullen; Mariakdibou Wijunamai, an executive member of the Makui Youth Club; Japou MK, a prominent student leader from Thonglang Akutpa; and Anil Wijunamai, who also served as an executive member of the Makui Youth Club.
Apart from the four deceased individuals, Gaikamang Ringkangmai sustained physical injuries during the armed assault. Furthermore, Wisobou Charenamai, who holds the position of chairman of the Chawangkining Village Authority, remained missing after the incident took place.
