A delegation representing the Manipuri Cultural Youth Organisation from Sylhet, Bangladesh, arrived in Imphal on Wednesday to hold formal discussions with Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh. The visiting group focused primarily on the challenges and welfare of the Manipuri community residing across the international border.
Preserving Identity and Socio-Economic Realities
The dialogue between the delegation and the legislative leader addressed key socio-economic challenges faced by the Manipuri diaspora living in Bangladesh. Both sides deliberated on structured measures required to preserve the unique cultural traditions of the community, while actively exploring avenues to deepen institutional and communal ties between the diaspora and people living in Manipur.
Commitment to Uphold Meitei Heritage
Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh welcomed the representatives warmly and underlined his commitment to nurturing enduring cultural bridges between the two regions. Sharing details of the interaction on social media, the Speaker described the dialogue as a meaningful exchange of heritage centered on supporting the diaspora and safeguarding cultural assets. He emphasized the necessity of keeping the Meitei heritage vibrant and active among the diaspora settled in Bangladesh.
Official Invitation to Visit Bangladesh
During the course of the interaction, the visiting youth delegation formally invited the Speaker to travel to Bangladesh. Singh accepted the offer and stated that he intended to undertake the visit at the earliest viable opportunity. The meeting highlighted the historic, shared roots binding Manipuri groups in both nations and reaffirmed the role of regular engagement in safeguarding their common legacy.
