Authorities identified the apprehended individual as Md. Samsudduha, who also goes by the alias Eton. Investigators disclosed that he had been actively engaged in acquiring and distributing illegal firearms, ammunition, and explosive materials across the area. Inquiry findings revealed that he previously brokered the transfer of an explosive hand grenade back in July, utilizing two female couriers to deliver the ordnance to a buyer for Rs 10,000. Following his detention, he was handed over to Andro Police Station to initiate formal legal proceedings.
Major Arsenal Uncovered in Churachandpur
In a coordinated counter-arms action conducted on the same day, security forces uncovered a substantial cache of ordnance within Kukimun village, situated in Churachandpur district. The confiscation yielded two 9 mm carbine machine guns alongside three 9 mm pistols, seven bolt-action single-barrel rifles, an explosive hand grenade, a mortar shell, and two improvised mortar launch tubes. All confiscated arms and munitions were transferred into the custody of Henglep Police Station for documentation and evidentiary processing.
Intensified Area Domination Across Vulnerable Zones
Vigorous patrolling and security sweeps have remained persistent across vulnerable boundary sectors and foothills since wide-scale ethnic unrest erupted in the state three years ago. The ongoing turmoil, which ignited in May 2023 between the valley-dwelling Meitei populace and the hill-based Kuki community, has claimed at least 306 lives so far. An additional 49 persons continue to be officially unaccounted for, while thousands remain displaced from their home settlements.
