The targeted enforcement sweep aimed directly at halting the unauthorized street betting pastime locally known as 'Lagao'. Over the course of the day, officers took 13 individuals into custody while confiscating an extensive array of custom dice sets, charts, platforms, and related gaming paraphernalia.
Extensive Raids by Porompat Police in Imphal East
A significant portion of the day's operations centered on Imphal East district, where personnel linked with Porompat Police Station executed a joint operation. That specific intervention led to eight individuals being apprehended on site. Investigators impounded seven gaming dice, six specialized platforms, eight tracking charts, and a solitary wicket basket. Anti-gambling units extended their sweep to nearby neighbourhoods, carrying out parallel checks throughout the Koreingei-Heingang and Kongba Ucheckon sectors, recovering additional illicit materials and gaming dice.
Nambol Crackdown in Bishnupur District
Further west, enforcement teams in Bishnupur district conducted focused raids in the Nambol locality, specifically pursuing operations involving 'Lagao Dice'. Officers cornered and detained two people suspected of running betting points. A search of the premises yielded nine full sets of gambling dice, which were immediately entered into evidence as part of the broader district-wide initiative to stamp out unregulated gaming stalls.
Targeted Raids Across Thoubal Locations
Simultaneously, Thoubal District Police mobilized multiple units across scattered locations to protect public order and disrupt unregulated bookmaking. Those synchronized visits yielded the detention of three suspects alongside a substantial haul of gear. Confiscated property in Thoubal included 11 complete sets of dice, 10 tally charts, and 15 wicket baskets. Police officials emphasized that these proactive multi-district sweeps form an integral element of ongoing efforts to safeguard public order and eradicate illicit betting circles across the region.
