Jowai: The technical exhibition titled Technophilia 2 served as a vibrant platform for students to display their creative projects, practical capabilities, and real-world problem-solving skills. Hosted by the Jowai Polytechnic Institute as an integral milestone of its Silver Jubilee celebrations, the event brought together academic leaders, faculty members, and aspiring engineers to celebrate technical education.
Shifting Toward Practical And Skill-Oriented Learning
Vijay Kumar Mantri, Commissioner and Secretary ofद Education Department, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an address emphasizing the urgent need to move away from conventional textbook-driven methods. He urged educational institutions to incorporate laboratory sessions, hands-on workshops, and project-based training right from the nascent stages of academic instruction.
He noted that the widespread availability of digital platforms and artificial intelligence has democratized information access, thereby shifting the true value toward practical competence and application. Furthermore, he highlighted that institutions must consistently revise and update their curricula to stay relevant with fast-evolving technological trends and corporate expectations.
Focusing On Specialized Sectors And Emerging Technologies
Citing specific fields such as automobile engineering and textile design, the discussions underscored the importance of mastering specialized technical skills, including garment pattern-making. Students were actively encouraged to dive into cutting-edge sectors like electric vehicles through hands-on experimentation and the creation of functional prototypes.
Regarding architectural assistantship, the designs discussed emphasized blending traditional aesthetics with contemporary requirements while carefully evaluating local geographical patterns and climatic variations. In Meghalaya, for instance, heavy and incessant rainfall makes structural elements like sloping roofs and robust drainage systems vital for preventing water seepage and dampness.
Strengthening Industry Collaboration And Institutional Growth
The dialogue also focused heavily on deepening ties between academic bodies and industrial sectors. Mantri encouraged the institute to leverage internal revenue generation policies for consultancy and infrastructure design assignments, while suggesting collaborative projects alongside the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
F.B.S. Ramsiej, Joint Director of Technical Education, congratulated the institution on its silver jubilee milestone and paid tribute to the collective efforts of past and present principals, staff, and alumni. He stressed the importance of upgrading laboratories and positioning the institute as a premier center of technical excellence.
Meanwhile, F. Rumnong, Deputy Director, drew attention to the significance of vocational and multidisciplinary learning frameworks under the National Education Policy 2020. He proposed a collaborative hub-and-spoke model to share educational resources across technical and general institutions.
Following the formal addresses, the chief guest inaugurated the exhibition floor, inspected various student exhibits, and interacted directly with the creators to understand their technical concepts and innovations.
