The North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya made a significant impact at the 13th Northeast Zonal Shooting Championship 2026 in Guwahati, with regional shooters claiming a total of three medals for the state.
Representing the Shooting Association of North Garo Hills, Anthony D. Marak and Rakku D. Momin delivered exceptional displays at the championship, capturing two gold medals and one bronze among them.
Marak secured the top position in the 10-metre pistol MQS event by posting a score of 370 out of 400 to clinch the gold medal. He subsequently added a bronze to his collection in the men’s 50-metre pistol event.
Shooting Association of North Garo Hills president Davis C.K. Sangma commended the two marksmen for their remarkable efforts, stating that their triumph underscored the vital role of discipline, dedication, and perseverance in the discipline.
Sangma also pointed out that these accomplishments demonstrated the capability of grassroots athletes to perform at elevated levels when provided with adequate training, proper guidance, and necessary support.
He urged more youths from the A’chik community to embrace shooting as a competitive sporting discipline, noting that it serves as an effective pathway for athletes to transition from district and state competitions toward national and international arenas.
This strong showing has provided fresh momentum to shooting sports across North Garo Hills, with the Shooting Association of North Garo Hills emphasizing the importance of expanding participation while identifying and nurturing promising young shooters throughout the region.
