Dr Joram Aniya, a member of NITI Aayog, recently carried out a comprehensive field visit to Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya to examine the ground-level execution of ongoing development initiatives and Central government welfare schemes. Ri Bhoi holds significance as one of Meghalaya's designated Aspirational Districts, making direct monitoring essential to verify that public programs effectively deliver benefits to rural communities.
On-Site Inspection of Local Healthcare Facilities
During her visit, Dr Aniya prioritized the evaluation of primary healthcare infrastructure to gauge how efficiently medical services are reaching residents. She inspected the Health and Wellness Centre located in Umroi, where she assessed the quality of healthcare delivery and facility readiness. Additionally, the NITI Aayog official visited the Public Health and Wellness Centre (PHWC) at Marngar, scrutinizing the operational status of medical resources and patient care services available at the grassroots level.
Review of Agricultural, Educational, and Youth Initiatives
To evaluate local economic support and skill development measures, Dr Aniya inspected the Ginger Processing Unit functioning at Bhoirymbong. The visit focused on operational capacities and how processing facilities support regional agricultural livelihoods. Moving to youth empowerment initiatives, she took stock of supportive programs at the Chief Minister's Youth Centre (CMYC) situated in Saiden. Furthermore, she visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Pahamsyiem to examine the residential education infrastructure provided for tribal students in the district.
Strengthening Grassroots Welfare Delivery
The primary objective of this assessment tour was to gather first-hand observations regarding the progress of government initiatives and identify potential operational bottlenecks. By assessing these key sectors directly, NITI Aayog aims to highlight areas that require targeted interventions, ensuring that Central schemes reach all eligible beneficiaries across the Ri Bhoi district efficiently.
