A week-long campaign dedicated to eradicating corruption and strengthening institutional integrity has commenced across Mizoram, with state government employees gathering on Monday to pledge their commitment toward ethical governance. The observance of Vigilance Awareness Week, scheduled to take place from October 26 through November 1, officially got underway as civil servants across multiple departments took a collective integrity oath at 11 am.
Oath Administration at the State Secretariat
In the capital city of Aizawl, officials and administrative staff attached to the Mizoram Secretariat assembled in the courtyard of the main complex to participate in the ceremony. The proceedings were conducted under the stewardship of Sudhir Kumar, who serves as the Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department as well as the in-charge Chief Secretary. The gathered personnel formally committed to maintaining uncompromising professional standards, ensuring absolute transparency in their everyday public duties, and actively rejecting dishonest practices.
Anti-Corruption Workshop and Public Walkathon
The state Vigilance Department has scheduled several targeted initiatives over the course of the week to maximize civic engagement. Among the key fixtures is an anti-corruption workshop hosted at Vanapa Hall, designed to review administrative practices and identify methods for boosting institutional accountability. Departmental records indicate that this initiative marks only the second major vigilance awareness assembly in the state to feature the direct participation of the chief minister. Furthermore, Chief Minister Lalduhoma is slated to head a public walkathon progressing from Vanapa Hall to the Millennium Centre to visibly carry the anti-corruption message into the public domain.
Grassroots Gram Sabhas and Creative Engagements
Civic outreach extends beyond the state administrative machinery to the local community level. On October 31, awareness-focused Gram Sabhas are scheduled across rural localities to foster public scrutiny and civic awareness. Additionally, the administration has arranged a flyer-making competition centered on this year's overarching theme, 'Probity for Prosperity', inviting creative submissions that interpret ethical governance and public well-being.
Origins Tied to the Central Vigilance Commission
Observed each year across the country under the auspices of the Central Vigilance Commission, this awareness campaign is held around October 31 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the nation's first deputy prime minister and home minister. The nationwide framework for this annual observance has been in continuous operation since its inception in the year 2000, serving as an institutional reminder of integrity in public administration.
