Indian oil marketing companies have announced a significant reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices effective August 1, 2026. State-run fuel retailers selling Indane Gas, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas lowered the rates of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders across major urban centers. This price revision comes even as geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran in West Asia create dual logistics hurdles for global oil and gas supply routes, particularly at critical maritime chokepoints including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea.
Geopolitical Backdrop and Second Reduction of 2026
The August rate cut marks the second consecutive reduction in 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder prices in 2026. In the preceding month, fuel marketing firms introduced the first price reduction of the year, lowering commercial cylinder rates by Rs 173 to Rs 183.50 across key metropolitan markets. Despite ongoing volatility in international energy supply chains, domestic oil companies have passed on cost relief to commercial enterprises, eateries, and industrial gas consumers.
City-Wise Commercial LPG Prices for August 2026
In the national capital city of Delhi, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder dropped by Rs 192, bringing the new rate to Rs 2,738 per cylinder compared to Rs 2,930 in the previous month. Similarly, in Gurgaon, commercial cylinder prices fell by Rs 192.50, adjusting the retail cost to Rs 2,755.
Price reductions were recorded across several other major cities as well
- Bengaluru: Commercial cylinder rates were trimmed by Rs 200, revising the price down to Rs 2,821 per cylinder.
- Chandigarh: Prices were reduced by Rs 194.50, taking the local commercial cylinder rate to Rs 2,760.
- Thiruvananthapuram: Rates decreased by Rs 197.50, setting the current cylinder cost at Rs 2,774.
- Bihar: Commercial LPG prices witnessed the steepest reduction of Rs 209. Despite this decline, the 19 kg cylinder continues to trade above the Rs 3,000 threshold at Rs 3,018 per cylinder for August 2026.
Domestic LPG Cylinder Rates Remain Unchanged
In contrast to commercial gas rates, prices for 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders remain completely unchanged for August 2026. Household consumers will see no alteration in cooking gas costs across metro locations
- Delhi: Rs 942 per cylinder
- Kolkata: Rs 968 per cylinder
- Mumbai: Rs 941.50 per cylinder
- Chennai: Rs 957.50 per cylinder
Indane LPG Cylinder Variants and Market Distribution
According to information from Indian Oil, Indane LPG is packaged and distributed in eight distinct cylinder sizes. The 5 kg and 14.2 kg variants are tailored primarily for domestic households and represent nearly 90% of total LPG distribution volume nationwide.
For commercial and industrial operations, fuel retailers market 19 kg, 47.5 kg, and 425 kg Jumbo cylinders. Additionally, composite fiber cylinders in 5 kg and 10 kg variants featuring a lightweight, translucent appearance represent the newest packaging options added to the domestic consumer portfolio.
