Assam's state-run bus services are preparing for a major digital transformation. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is integrating an advanced Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) across its entire fleet of buses. This technological upgrade aims to bring real-time tracking capabilities, digital-first ticketing solutions, and enhanced security mechanisms to everyday commuters in the state.
Enhancing Passenger Safety and Surveillance
Safety is a cornerstone of this new digital initiative. To ensure a secure commuting environment, especially for women, ASTC buses will be equipped with emergency panic or SOS buttons. These buttons will be directly linked to dedicated central control rooms, enabling immediate responses in case of any security concerns. In addition to emergency buttons, live CCTV cameras will monitor the interiors of the buses, adding an extra layer of active surveillance and passenger protection.
Real-Time Tracking and Operational Efficiency
The integration of GPS-enabled tracking devices is set to change how passengers interact with public transport. These tracking units will connect directly with the state's transport monitoring networks. For commuters, this means they will no longer have to wait blindly at bus stops. Instead, they can monitor the live location of their buses. For transport administrators, the real-time data will allow them to closely supervise fleet movements, assess route performance, and manage schedules dynamically.
Smart Ticketing and Modern Scheduling
